Get ready for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!

Record numbers of countries are participating in a record number of sports. More than 10,500 athletes from 206 countries will take part. With 306 sets of medals, the games will feature 28 Olympic sports — including rugby sevens and golf, which were added by the International Olympic Committee in 2009. These sporting events will take place at 33 venues in the host city and at 5 venues in the cities of São Paulo (Brazil’s largest city), Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Brasília (Brazil’s capital), and Manaus.

NBC television coverage will begin with the Opening Ceremony on Friday, Aug. 5, with primetime coverage on NBC running from Aug. 5-21. Bob Costas returns to host primetime coverage on NBC, with Ryan Seacrest hosting NBC’s late-night coverage.

A wide array of NBC Universal networks will host extensive Olympic coverage throughout the games. Full details and channel listings will be released and available closer to the start of the Olympics.
