New ESPN+ App Content Released
April 12

On April 12 , ESPN released new content called ESPN+ and a refreshed ESPN app.

What is ESPN+?

ESPN+ is a complementary service to ESPN that targets avid sports fans on a broad and niche basis, offering subscription streaming access to thousands of additional live sporting events, original content and studio shows, and on-demand video library. This product is a subscription-based service separate from the ESPN TV Everywhere content customers get as part of their cable subscription. It is a completely separate and distinct product from ESPN television.

What does ESPN+ cost?

It’s important to note that this new ESPN+ subscription costs $4.99/mo., payable directly to ESPN. This new app is completely different from the WatchESPN app content that our customers can access through WatchTVEverywhere.

What is the difference between WatchESPN and ESPN+?

The content on ESPN+ will be completely different from the current WatchESPN content.

Customers that have access to WatchESPN content through a Cable provider (Premier Communications) subscription will not have access to ESPN+ content, unless they also pay the $4.99/mo. fee to ESPN. Likewise, those that choose to subscribe to the new ESPN+ app will not be able to access content on WatchESPN unless they also pay for a Cable TV subscription.

WatchESPN Content – Free with a Premier Communications Cable TV subscription (Family Plus or Prime lineups)

ESPN+ Content - $4.99/mo., payable to ESPN directly (or $49.99/yr.)

A new ESPN app?

To make things even more confusing, both WatchESPN (the current content) and ESPN+ will be merged into a single, refreshed ESPN app. The new ESPN App will be available on iPhone, iPad, Android, tvOS, Web, Chromecast, FireTV, and Kindle Tablets on April 12. Users with the existing WatchESPN app may continue to use the WatchESPN app or be directed to the new redesigned ESPN App. If you choose to use the new ESPN App, you will notice a new layout, more personalization and new search options.
